چکیده

The Influence of Nonrespiratory Alkalosis on Cerebral Blood Flow in Cats • Cerebral blood flow was measured with the Xenon clearance method during short-lasting (20 minutes) and more prolonged (90 minutes) infusions of Na2CO3 solutions in anesthetized cats under controlled ventilation. The infusion protocol was regulated so as to produce a given increase in the plasma [HCOi] in the first 15 minutes, followed by a constant high plasma level for the rest of the infusion period. A high Paco, level was induced before and at the end of the infusion, when prolonged infusions were made. The results indicate that, in acute experiments (20 minutes), an increase in plasma [HCOi] of 14 mEq/1 does not influence CBF. During more prolonged infusions (90 minutes), an increase of 12 mEq/1 produces a reduction of CBF and an increase in the CSF [HCOi]. These changes are more pronounced when the increase in plasma [HCOi] is more marked (18 mEq/1). Additional

The Effect of Hurdling Performance on The Adaptive Profile of Cerebral Blood Flow in Vestibular Irritation

Background: The reactions of the whole organism that occur under the action of accelerations of rectilinear and rotational motion are factors that have a systemic effect on the cerebral blood flow. The use of hurdling performance in the structure of human physical activity can have a significant impact on the tone of the brain vessels, their elasticity and venous outflow in the development of f...

Role of Nitric Oxide and ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in Rabbit

Background: The mechanisms underlying cerebral hypercapnic vasodilatation are not fully understood. Objective: To investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) and ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in basal blood flow regulation and hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in rabbit cerebral blood vessels. Methods: The change in cerebral blood flow was measured by a laser Doppler flowmeter in 18 Ne...

Role of Local Nerves and Prostaglandins in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in the Rabbit

The mechanisms underlying cerebral vasodilatation during hypercapnia are not fully understood. To examine the role of nerves and prostaglandins in the regulation of basal blood flow and in hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in the cerebral blood vessels of rabbit.Cerebral blood flow was measured by laser Doppler flow-meter in 18 NZW rabbits anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital.  Tetrodetoxin ...

A survey of intracranial blood flow velocity in thalassemia intermedia in Khuzestan Province, Iran

Background: Beta-thalassemia intermedia (BTI) is a type of hemoglobinopathy with an increased risk of cerebrovascular accidents, and transcranial cerebral Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) through determining the mean cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) can serve to predict the risk of a developing stroke. This study aims to compare patients with beta-thalassemia intermedia and healthy individuals ...

Effect of non-respiratory alkalosis on brain tissue and cerebral blood flow in rats with damaged blood-brain barrier.

Acute alterations in plasma bicarbonate concentration have minimal effects on intracerebral pH and cerebral blood flow, perhaps due to blood-brain barrier mechanisms. To test this hypothesis, the consequences of an acute rise in the plasma bicarbonate concentration were studied in anesthetized rats previously subjected to an acute pressure pulse in the carotid system with unilateral damage to t...
